Background

The City of Houston has an amazing opportunity to save taxpayer money and address recurring flooding issues by not rebuilding redundant infrastructure and instead creating a much needed greenspace for a park-deficient area of Houston.

With this in mind, in early 2020 the City proposed alternative solutions to rebuilding the Brazos St. Bridge. They presented this proposal via several community meetings. And there was significant support by numerous organizations and neighborhoods. The COH also conducted traffic studies as part of the project to verify if there is sufficient capacity on the existing roads. Their data is available here:

Brazos Bridge Park Sketch

The inception of this potential park project began on an inclusive, data-driven, well-planned and positive note.  We ask that Mayor Turner and the Dept of Public Works revisit the announced decision and continue on in such a matter to it’s conclusion.

Please ask yourselves if the businesses that are asking for the rebuild of the Brazos Bridge at tax payers expenses in order to push their business strategy – we believe there have been some recent land grabs along Brazos by a developer, and that they are using the public’s name to push for the Bridge redevelopment.
